12.23.03 - MVC With Entrapment Brownsville Road at Curry Hollow Road

On December 23, 2003 at 23:05 Baldwin Borough Police Communications dispatched a Zone 8-4 motor vehicle accident assignment for a two vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment. Baldwin EMS Station 510, South Baldwin Fire Station 8, and Baldwin Police were alerted.

Within minutes, Baldwin Police unit 8 confirmed one injury, and confirmed entrapment. Units arrived on scene and found a two vehicle crash with one female injured and entangled inside a two door compact newer model car. Crews quickly stabilized the vehicle. Crews then made access via a passenger door, provided care to the victim and performed insider rescue duties. Rescue 8 stretched a protective hand line and controlled hazards. Personnel from Rescue 50 and Rescue 8 utilized hydraulic tools to remove the driver's door and partially remove the roof of the vehicle. And extrication pathway was made available and the patient was removed onto a long spine board and transported to Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh by Medic 51 (8) minutes after crews arrived on scene.

9.29.03 - Baldwin Towers High Rise Fire

On September 29, 2003 at 1352 hrs., Baldwin EMS along with Baldwin Police, South Baldwin and Option Fire Departments responded to a report of a fire alarm activation coming from within the 9 story apartment high rise. As EMS units arrived, residents from the building were beginning to evacuate. EMS Command and Triage were established. Residents were found within the elevators and both stairwells. Initial arriving firefighters located a heavy fire and smoke condition inside a trash chute located on the 1st floor of the building. The residents were placed outside the building and an accountability of all building residents was completed. The ambient temperatures were in the low 60 degrees, therefore blankets were provided to all residents while they waited to return to their apartments. Several residents were treated with oxygen but no serious injuries resulted during the incident. EMS Mutual assistance was provided by Tri-Community South EMS, Medical Rescue Team South Authority and Prism Health Services. Fire Departments from Pleasant Hills, Whitehall and Broughton responded to the staging area.
